CHATEAU YON SAINT-EMILION GRAND CRU

While this wine still has serious layers of tannins, it also delivers considerable ripe black-fruit flavors. The estate in the Figeac sector of Saint-Emilion has produced a powerful wine that is firm and that will age further.

Not yet bottled, the 2016 Château Yon-Figeac checks in as a mix of 82% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and the balance Petit Verdot. Sporting a ruby/plum color, it gives up a meaty, earthy bouquet of crème de cassis, tobacco, dried soil, and forest floor. With a rich, mouthfilling style on the palate, it has rock solid tannins, plenty of density and heft, and a big finish. Drink this complex, outstanding Saint Emilion any time over the coming 15 years or more.

Very rich dark berries and plums with an attractive and deep, fresh-fruit edge. The palate has a very smooth, fresh and sweetly fruited core with ripe, plush and approachable tannins. A blend of 81 per cent merlot, 13 per cent cabernet franc and six per cent petit verdot.
