This whiskey from Bardstown leaps out of the glass with cocoa nibs, chocolate croissant, cigar box, and banana split aromas. The blend of 7 year old Indiana rye and 17 year old Tennessee bourbon is finished in rum barrels for nearly 2 years, imparting flavors of syrupy fruits, fig jam, overripe bananas, and cherry cola. While the nose is assertive, the palate is more subdued, allowing delicate flavors of leather, cherry cordial, and berry smoothie to shine. The finish is long and rich, with chocolate malt, cinnamon candies, and toffee, fading to charred oak and maple syrup. —Shane English
