Our Rkatisteli label honors Lela, one of Georgia’s legendary woman warriors. In 1659, Lela, the daughter of a famous warrior, stepped forward to join the effort to liberate Georgia from foreign warlords, but was refused because she was a woman. One warrior, Kviria, knew that the effort could not succeed without Lela’s help, and devised a plan to strike by stealth. Lela perished in the fray, but not before opening the gates and leading the way for a Georgian victory.
